RogueJack
One run. Three hearts. How far can you get? RogueJack is Tahúr’s blackjack roguelike. Pick a path up each floor, build a kit as you go, and lose a heart for every match you lose. Run out and the run is over, but you keep a little for next time.
Floor by floor
Every floor is a map. Pick a path through it, and every path ends at the floor’s kingpin. The stops along the way:
- Table
- A regular. Win for a reward and chips.
- High Table
- A tougher regular with house tricks. Better rewards.
- The Fence
- Spend chips on powerups, marks, charms and a heart.
- Street Corner
- Somebody wants a word. A choice, and a gamble.
- Back Booth
- Rest up: a heart back, sharper powerups, or Nerve.
- Kingpin
- The floor’s kingpin, with their rulebook.
Wins pay chips. Spend them at the Fence on powerups, marks, charms or a heart back.
Charms
Charms are small rules that work in your favour for the rest of the run. There are ten:
- Iron Will
- Start every match with +1 Nerve.
- Deep Pockets
- You can hold 2 more Nerve.
- Second Wind
- Losing a set gives +1 more Nerve.
- Momentum
- Win a set: +1 Nerve.
- Cheap Tricks
- Your first powerup each set costs 1 less.
- Opening Glance
- See their hidden card in the first set of every match.
- Head Start
- Start every match one set up.
- Lucky Coin
- Ties go to you.
- Chip Magnet
- +50% chips from every win.
- Safety Net
- The next match you lose costs no heart. Then it’s gone.
Heat
Reach stage 15 and you can turn up the Heat on your next run. Each level keeps every one below it:
- 1. Warm
- Rivals start every match with +1 Nerve.
- 2. Hot
- The Fence charges 25% more.
- 3. Scorching
- More high tables, and they hit harder.
- 4. Blistering
- You start the run with 2 hearts.
- 5. Inferno
- Kingpins play dirty from the first card: phase 2 is on from the start.
Challenge a friend
Every run can be shared as a challenge link. Your friend plays the same floors, against the same faces, with the same offers in the shops, and tries to beat your stage.
The Daily Deal
One RogueJack run a day, the same for everyone, with a twist on top (Open Book, Lucky Sevens, High Stakes, Short Fuse, Seeing Double and more). Post your result to the day’s board, which closes when the day ends everywhere, and look back over the last 30 days.
