Questions, answered

Is Tahúr free?

Yes. The browser version is free and sells nothing: no ads, no premium currency, nothing to unlock with money.

Is it gambling? Can I win or lose real money?

No. There’s no real money anywhere. Coins are only won at the table; they can’t be bought or cashed out. Mystery boxes are bought with those coins, and their odds are printed on every box.

Do I need an account?

No. Your progress saves in your browser. If you want the same save on another device, turn on cloud save in Settings. A friend can join your table from a link without signing up.

Does it work on phones?

Yes, in any modern browser on a phone, tablet or computer. You can add it to your home screen, and it plays offline once it’s loaded. Keyboards and controllers work too. Android, iPhone and Steam versions come later, with the same save.

Can I play blackjack online with friends?

Yes. Host a table and send the link, or run a tournament for up to 128 players. There’s also a casual queue and a ranked ladder from Hustler to Kingpin.

How is it different from normal blackjack?

You play against a rival, not a dealer, and both of you have one hidden card. You can raise, call and fold. Powerups and marked cards bend the rules, every room has house rules, and kingpins change theirs mid-match.

How is it different from other card roguelikes?

Like many card roguelikes, it’s built on a card game you already know, and every run builds a kit. Tahúr is blackjack, played head to head against rivals rather than against a score, with a story, online duels, tournaments and a daily run.

What is RogueJack?

Tahúr’s roguelike mode: one run on three hearts. Each floor is a map of tables, shops and surprises with a kingpin at the top. Win to grow your kit, lose a match to lose a heart, and see how far you get. The Daily Deal is the same run for everyone, once a day.

Is it finished?

It’s in Early Access: three of five story chapters are open, along with RogueJack, the Daily Deal and online play. The rest of the story arrives as free updates.

How was it made?

Tahúr is designed and directed by one person, Wasi Mahin, and built with AI: Claude, by Anthropic, writes the code and the dialogue and makes the art and the music, all in code. No image generators and no AI voices.

Can I stream it or make videos?

Yes, monetised or not, on any platform. The music is original and isn’t registered with any copyright-matching service. B-roll and art are on the creators page.

What does Tahúr mean?

Tahúr (or tahur, without the accent) is Spanish for a card sharp. The first written account of blackjack, Cervantes’ Rinconete y Cortadillo (around 1601), follows two young tahúres hustling twenty-one in Seville.

Which languages?

English, for now.
